American-Style Lager - All Grain

Recipe Description

Brewed for Kristi's 50th Birthday! Typical American Lager style for those guests who aren't excited by craft beer.

  • Batch Size: 3.5 gal (13.2 L)
  • Boil Size: 4.75 gal (18 L)
  • Boil Time: 60 mins

Ingredients

  • Grains/Fermentables
  • 4.5 lbs (2.04 kg) 2-Row Malt (1 °L)
  • 0.5 lbs (0.23 kg) Flaked Rice (0 °L)
  • 0.5 lbs (0.23 kg) Flaked Corn (0 °L)
  • Hops
  • 1 oz (28.35 g) Saaz (Czech) Pellet 2.8% AA (Boil - 60 mins)
  • Yeast
  • Saflager S-23 (Dry)

Directions

Infusion (Infusion): Mash at 150 °F (66 °C) with 2 gal (7.57 L) of water for 150 minutes.

Recommended Sparge: 170 °F (77 °C)

12/1/2018. Mash: Strike with 2 gallons 166°F water. After dough-in temp settled to 150°F. Let rest for 150 minutes. Collected 1.1 gallons at 1.072.
Sparge: 3.6 gallons at 170°F. Collected 3.6 gallons at 1.026.
Boil: 4.75 gallons of 1.033 wort for 60 minutes
Ferment: 3 gallons of 1.044 wort for a minimum of two weeks
12/10/2018. Secondary: gravity at 1.010
12/30/2018. Bottled with 3 oz cane sugar. Yield: 46 12oz bottles. Gravity: 1.004. Bottle Cap: Yellow!

Hold in primary fermentor for 9 days at 62 °F (17 °C).

Transfer to secondary fermentor for 20 days at 62 °F (17 °C).

Allow to carbonate and age for 14 days at 62 °F (17 °C).
