This turned out to be a solid pumpkin beer. Medium amber in color and the taste of the pumpkin spice really comes through. Using the pumpkin in the mash was a little messy and I'm not sure it really added anything. I might make this again but more than likely I'll continue to try to make the perfect fall pumpkin beer.
The smell and taste of pumpkin spice (particularly nutmeg) is noticeable. There is a slightly sweet taste but it finishes with the blend of hops and spice.
Notes From Sept. 30, 2012 (Brewing)
Gravity Reading: 1.055
Pretty good brew day. I made a change to not open the flow all the way when doing the sparge. It was quite slow and I'm not sure if it helped get more efficiency or not. The wort was more full than usual and after the boil it was around 5.5 gallons even leaving a fair amount of gunk in the kettle. The pre-boil gravity was 1.053 measured at 46 F. Post-boil was the same 1.053 measured at 88F. I had forgotten to start the smack pack before the mash so it didn't get the full 3 hours recommended before the pitch. Still it smells really good and I'm excited for this beer.
Notes From Oct. 22, 2012 (Bottling/Kegging)

Bottling a day late but that's ok. The spice notes are there but the molasses didn't come through the way I was hoping. Still should be a good beer though late in the season.
