Final Review

Not bad, but not award-winning. Tastes like a much lighter ale on the front end, but after about 5 seconds or so the darker flavors creep up. IMHO this recipe would be great with some honey or molases or something to load the front end a little more.

Gravity Reading: 1.051

I have a turkey friar so I did all 5 gallons from the start and it was more like 165 than 156 for the 45 min steep. I added 6 lbs of liquid malt at the beginning of the boil instead of the powder/liquid at different times.
0.6 oz Fuggle - a 4.2%, b 2.5%
1.0 oz KG - a 4.5%

For yeast I used 1056 cause that's what they had in the fridge @ the flying keg.

We'll see how it turns out

Gravity Reading: [Not given]

The taste check post primary confirmed everything is moving along nicely. Since this is my first time with a 5 gallon batch, I had to get new glassware, and the store didn't have enough caps. I'm one short. So my last 64oz growler (the one with some of the dregs in it) is topped with packaging and electrical tape. The true test of my ability will be if that one turns out all right!

Didnt turn out too bad. Tastes like a much lighter ale on the front end, but after about 5 seconds or so the darker flavors creep up. IMHO this recipe would be great with some honey or molases or something to load the front end a little more. Oh, and by the way, my McGyver growler totally worked. No infected beer, though it did end up a little on the flat side.
